German Cavalry

1830s - 1850s

These images from a German book depict cavalry training.  They were likely compiled in the 1840s.  Hussars and curassiers are depicted.  Though there is very little on actual technique, these few images are authentic illustrations.  They show cavalry action clearly.  These are great poses for a sculptor who wants to blend excitement with realism.

The target has a wood head wearing a turban.  Does it represent Turks or French Zouaves?
