The drill for smoothbore musket differed slightly from that of the rifle. Muskets were still in use by some militia units. They were usually loaded with buck and ball, a combination of a regular musket shot plus a few pieces of buckshot. Like the 1861 Rifle Drill, this one is derived from a French manual of the time.
