French Bayonet 1837

Teamwork

Bayonets are for armies, and armies mean fighting as a unit. The French traiend their soldeirs to use bayonets as a group as well as singly.  Once again, the pictures speak for themselves.

Four man defense

Start position.

This is how four men can use bayonets to defend when outnumbered

Many men in defense

Start position for five or more men.

The trick is to place men so that they make a four-sided formation.  This is somewhat reminiscent of the square or schiltron.

Defending in three ranks

Start position

This is how three ranks can form to make a veritable wall of bayonets.
