Operation Desert Storm in 1991 was a mixed bag, insofar as United States military uniforms. While many troops were issued desert camouflaged clothing, some still wore Woodland camouflage. Adding to the confusion were the flak vests in Woodland camo issued to most troops, and Woodland camo chemical weapons suits. The desert camouflage of the Gulf War was later repalced by a simpler three-color design. Presently, the old suits are being issued to the new Iraqi army.

Here you can see the uniform itself, including boots similar to Vietnam jungle boots. |
Note field gear. Canvas holster replaced the old leather holster. Man in foreground is also wearing a bayonet. The "Y" harness first appeared in the late 1970s, replacing the "H" suspenders of the Vietnam-era M1956 gear. |
