German U.S. Half Track

You may be old enough to remember the "German" half tracks in such shows as "Combat!" and "The Rat Patrol." A standard US White half track was turned into an enemy vehicle by grace of a little paint and a few Panzer crosses.  Of course, many a toy Marx and Auburn half track got the same treatment.

Before you laugh this off as a toy time memory, look at the photos below.  They show a knocked-out half track in North Africa in 1942 or 1943.  It is a n American half track that had been captured, painted and camouflaged by German forces.   It looks as if the Germans gave it a coat of tan paint, then hastily painted "swiggles" with brown or dark green.
