The Nine Day Class
An Exercise in Attainment
Lesson 2 - Principle is not bound by Precedent
There is an old saying: You cant teach an old dog new tricks. It implies that once something gets set in its way, it cannot change.
The truth is just the opposite. The fact that a thing never happened before, does not mean it cannot happen in the future. There was a time when men thought it was impossible to fly. Today, we not only fly across Earth, but have even gone far into space. Probes like Voyager have flown inestimable distances.
The principle that allows flight has always existed. No matter how much it was denied , or how many attempts failed, the principle of flight worked as soon as it was applied properly. The lesson is this: just because we could not do it before, does not mean it cannot be done now. This applies to physics and material things as well as to us. We can change. We can make improvements. If we were never rich, nor successful, nor lovable in the past, we can always change our circumstances. We can become prosperous, effective and lovable, no matter what our age or past experience. The fact that you could not do it previously is no hindrance to doing it in the present or future. Positive change is possible. The principle of change does not hold your past against you.
If you desire to enjoy more good in your life, you can have it. You can become the person who is happy, successful, prosperous and loved. All of your past failures count as nothing against your potential to succeed. You have within you the seed of your accomplishment. Embrace it and let it begin to work for you.
Meditation: ponder the possibility for change. Think of how inventions changed the world. Ponder such things as flight, space travel, deep sea exploration and the cure of formerly incurable ailments. Think of all the things that people once said could not be done, and now are done on a regular basis. As you think of these things, think of your desire for better. Ponder that just as inventions have changed the world, so you have the potential to change yours. Accept that like flight and medicine, you are not bound by the limitations of the past. You can go forward and succeed. Principle is not bound by precedent.
Thought for the Day: Just as science has shown that principle is not bound by precedent, so I am not bound by my past. I can go forward regardless of anything that may have bound me before.
Exercise for Today: Do this in the morning, before you being your days activities. Take a sheet of paper. On one side, list things that you want to accomplish. On the other, list the reasons you do not have them yet. For each item, limit your answer to a couple of words. Spend no more than ten minutes making these lists. (Time yourself - you can even use an egg timer) When time is up, fold it and put it in a safe place. Forget about it for the day.
When you return on the evening, at a relaxing time, look over the list. Write down any ideas that come, which will help you move closer toward attaining your goals.
