The Nine Day Class

An Exercise in Attainment

Lesson 6 - Feeling stronger

By now, you are feeling a little more confidence. Perhaps you feel stronger, brighter, and better. What changed? The past five lessons have not changed you. They merely guided you to appreciate your own inner assets. You have been shown that you are a much more capable person than you realized.

Yesterdays exercise revealed several of your strengths. Knowing you have them, you undoubtedly feel stronger. Knowledge builds confidence. The recognition of your strengths gives you confidence because you know they are working for you. You have a greater appreciation of what you can do.

Now is a good time to look at the many things you would like to accomplish. Your new appreciation of your abilities gives insight. Perhaps you are closer to some goals than you had thought. Maybe you find yourself ready to tackle a goal which had previously seemed too far out of reach. When you fully comprehend that which is within you, you are more capable of achieving your desires.

For many people, the thing that sparks action is knowing it can be done successfully. People are enthusiastic when they know they have what it takes to accomplish a goal. On the other hand, they are hesitant if they are uncertain that they can do it. When people do not feel capable, they are reluctant to act. By knowing that they have the inner strength to succeed, they are willing to take action.

At this point, you feel that only a few of your desires are now within reach. As you achieve each one, you gain in skill and knowledge. The more that you accomplish, the more that will come within reach. The experience you gain in achieving a desire translates into the ability to take on bigger, more difficult goals.

Focus on your strengths. Look at how they have worked for you in the past. You will see that there is a way that they work. Through knowing how they work, you can apply them more effectively. Best of all is that they are not something you have to achieve. You already have these strengths within you. They have benefitted you before.

Look at your goals. Which ones match your strengths? Which are most accessible to you? This is a good time to re-assess your ability to attain.

Exercise: Use the Elements. Make a list with four headings, one each for Earth, Water, Air and Fire. Take half an hour to look at your strengths and shortcomings, your victories and mistakes. Try to find five to ten of each. Assign each to one of the Four Elements. (If you are more comfortable with Tarot, then assign each to one of the four suits of the Minor Arcana.) Spend no more than a half hour on this exercise. When you have listed them all, put the paper away. Forget about it and go about your business.

Meditation: Muse over the abilities which were revealed in your last exercise. Consider how it reflects upon you. Ponder the new strengths and abilities, and reflect on the old ones. See them all as part of yourself. Let yourself meditate on your abilities. Get friendly with the newly-revealed strengths. Mentally blend them with the assets you already knew that you had. As you ponder these things, try to get comfortable with the idea of yourself as a person who CAN do it. If necessary, reflect on past achievements, no matter how small.

Thought for the Day: I know that I have strengths and abilities greater than I had imagined. I am ever more confident in my ability to use them successfully.
