Stand and look to the sky on a clear night. Look at the most distant star. That star is many miles away. It may be millions of miles away. Some stars are billions of miles away. It may take thousands or even millions of years for the light of distant stars to reach you.
When you look at that star, you are momentarily connected with it. You are connected with the time and place where that light originated. The star is probably no longer in that place. It may not even exist any more, having imploded long before man discovered fire. Nonetheless, you see it and you have an instant connection to a thing that is tremendously distant from you in time and space.
That light affects you just by your seeing it. The same light might have a great influence on a pilot using the stars to navigate or an astronomer charting the Universe. The impact on you, the pilot and the astronomer are immediate, though the event that created that light occurred immeasurably far from you an unbelievably long time ago.
Your current contact with that star evaporates time and space.
The same happens if you went to a museum to see Napoleon’s Sword, or Henry VIII’s armor or Rameses' sarcophagus. By seeing them, by being in their presence you are instantly connected to the time and place they were made, and to the persons who used them.
Your mind can conceive of an evaporation of time and space, no matter how tenuous. This is essential to an appreciation of something more important.
This dissolution of time and space is actually a dissolution of distance. By seeing that star, you have negated the distance between you and it, instantly connecting you to an event million of miles and thousands of years away.
On the other hand, the physical world has not changed. In the physical Universe, the start has not gotten any closer in miles or in years. It is as far away in space and time as it was before you saw it.
Where did you connect with the star and remove the distance?
Let us examine another thing. Our very life is affected by time and space and distance. Time proceeds from moment to moment, each moment receding into the past. Likewise, the future becomes the present moment by moment. We can think about the past, but cannot return to it. We can think about the future, but we cannot get there except by living moment to moment.
For instance, we cannot jump ahead to next week and then come back to this moment. We can only get to next week by first going through this week, moment by moment and hour by hour and day by day. While it is possible to remember the past with amazing clarity, it is impossible to return and live in that past moment. So it is that it will take seven days to get to next week. Once we get there, we cannot come back to today. The distance from past to future cannot be bridged.
Space is similar. We can each be in a place. To get to another place, we must deal with distance in two ways. There is the linear distance between us and the other place, and the time it takes to get there. We cannot get to another place instantaneously. Our physical world limits us by distance. Granted, there are faster and slower ways to get from one point to another. Riding a car is faster than walking, and taking a jet plane is faster than driving. We still deal with the space we must traverse and the time it takes to get there.
Relativity theories aside, we cannot get to a new place before we leave the old one. For instance, say you wanted to travel from Brooklyn to Chicago. If you left Brooklyn at 1 o’clock EST, you would have to arrive in Chicago after 1 O’clock EST. You could not land prior to 1 o’clock EST.
The reason for the time / space discussion is to give us a basis for examining a peculiar phenomenon.
1) Have you ever felt that you were being watched, even if you could not see the observer? The feeling is often described like having a steel wedge in the back of your neck. You may have discovered who was watching you, but only after getting the feeling and reacting to it. Many have had this feeling. There are many stories of soldiers who, alerted by the feeling, we able to avoid an ambush or evade a sniper. Civilians who have had it have been able to avoid robbers. Even criminals have gotten the feeling of being watched. Some have heeded it and avoided surveillance. Others have eluded arrest.
The peculiar thing is that there is no physical way these people can get this feeling. Visual observation is passive. The viewer sees light reflected from that which he observes. Whether he is there to see it or not, the light is still reflected. The viewer does not send light at the thing he is watching. So how does a person know he is being watched? There is no physical way for him to feel the presence of an observer. Nonetheless, people have gotten the feeling and have been able to make physical changes which protected them.
2) Whenever there is a major disaster, there are reports of people who had a warning hours and even days or weeks in advance. These people acted on the warning. They canceled their travel plans, changed their flight, or did not go to work that day. The unforeseen disaster happened, be it an airplane crash, building collapse or terrorist attack. Many may have been killed or hurt, but the forewarned individuals avoided it.
The warnings may have been dreams, feelings or omens. It often varies from person to person. What matters is that these people were mysteriously apprised of a future event. That information enabled them to make physical changes which saved them from harm.
There is no physical way these people could have deduced the unforeseen disaster. They could not go into the future to see it. People in the future have no way to send warnings to people in the past. How did these people get actual knowledge of a coming event which was unforeseeable?
3) Another phenomenon common to disasters is the number of people who never make it to the dire event, and thus avoid harm. These people are prevented from getting to the airport, building, etc. by unusual sets of coincidences. It can be as simple as the car which is reliable does not start that day, or the bus that runs on schedule is late that day, or the alarm clock that runs true does not work that day. It can be as complex as a series of events which keep the individual away from the disaster. Normally dependable things suddenly go awry. Coincidence? Why does it happen to more people on that particular day than on any other? What thing could have manipulated physical things to create circumstances which kept these people from harm?
4) A peculiar phenomenon has been noted among some identical twins, close relatives, parents and children, and very close friends. They may be separated by great distances, but if one is injured the other sense it almost instantaneously. No time elapses between the injury on one and the reaction of the other. It does not matter if they are separated by hundreds of yards or thousands of miles. The feeling is immediate.
There is no physical way this can occur. Nonetheless, it happens with startling frequency.
The events mentioned above are some of the cracks in the fabric of physical time and space. They are evidence of a non-physical thing which can affect the physical world. We see that it is not limited by time or space.
Conventional religion sees such things as works of their God, his Court, angels or the ghosts of holy men. The immediate problem is that those who are saved range from the religiously devout to the wholly irreligious. Why would their God save some of the devout, but let other devout persons perish? And why would it save those who are disrespectful of him? Why help his adversaries while his friends suffer? The religious folks' response is the mysterious "Will of God." They claim it is some unfathomable thing which only the God understands, yet is beyond the knowledge of humans. "Will of God" is a way to avoid dealing with uncomfortable paradoxes.
What we see is that some people benefit by a thing that can affect the physical world and people, but is not limited by them. This thing is not itself physical. It benefits people of all ages, races, and religious belief. It has helped law-abiding people, devout people, irreligious people and criminal people. How it picks and chooses its beneficiaries is not based on human standards.
The thing is not limited by physical space or time
The thing can affect the physical world.
It can affect people
It can affect things.
The thing can know the future
The thing can start processes in the present to take advantage of its knowledge of the future.
It can transcend time and space.
The thing picks its beneficiaries regardless of age, race, gender, religion or other human standards.
At this point, we see that the power has existence in our own experience. We have felts its effects in our own life. Knowing that the power really exists, we can more easily proceed in our esoteric study. The "thing" is no longer theory, but proven fact. It does exist as a force with tangible results.
I call this exercise "breaking the mind's bonds." It breaks that barrier which refuses to admit the existence of anything outside the physical realm. Because this exercise clearly describes actual incidents which most of us have experienced, the reality of the power is more apparent. We know that a force and principle is at work. From here, our studies can progress on the solid foundation of real experience.
Did we feel the thing or its effects, or both? That is up to each individual to answer for himself. Both are evidence of its existence and its capabilities. While it may be nice to believe and hope, the best thing is to know and experience. As this little exercise proves, the experience is something we all have had, from time to time.
