Tyr is both War God and Victory Rune. The Runic shape is that of a spear. For the ancient German, Vikings and Anglo Saxons, the main weapon was the spear. It could be held and thrust at an enemy, or thrown. As a weapon, it is easy to learn and easy to use. An experienced spearman if a formidable opponent.
As Runes should be experienced, one might wonder who to go about the Spear aspect of the Tyr Rune. Armies no longer train with spears. Unless there is a martial arts supply nearby, spears are hard to get. What can you do?
First, you do not need a real spear. You could try the manuevers with a broomstick. The technique of spearmanship that best equates the Rune is the thrust. though spear manuals are scarce, the modern equivalent fo the spear is well-known. A soldiers rifle bayonet is the spear of the modern era. Manuals of spearmanship can be found on the Internet. All you have to do is learn one technique: the thrust. Try it a few times and you get a very good feel for the Tyr kind of motion: direct, focused and brutally efficient.
As Runes go, Tyr is a forces that organizes, focuses and directs. It applies maximum power at an adversaries weakest point. The same can be said of the thrust. The entire body is the power behind it. Legs lunge forward, arms extend forth, and the bayonet is aimed at the vulnerable throat of the enemy.
As you go through the thrust, think of it in terms of the Rune. All power is organized to strike when the target is ready. Every asset moves to the target, overcoming opposition with one well-timed motion. Maximum power is placed behind the strike. Tyr does just that. The Rune is a master coordinator. It is both the plan and the actual attack.
Reading and meditation give insight into Runes, but they are not enough. A Rune must be experienced in various ways. The Tyr Rune can be felt through a variety of experiences, and a spear thrust is one of them. It lets you actually feel the Tyr experience through your own body.
